I believe that if you left it out in the blarring sun and heat yes but I have exposed my helmet to a sun rise to sun set day of riding all day. Does that mean that paticular helmet is less than it was before???
According to the helmet manufacturers and the Motorcycle Safety Foundation, yes. Your helmet is only about 80% effective two years after you buy it due to normal use and exposure to the elements.

Shoei even offers free helmet inspection. Go to their site for details

Well there it is. Proof that many of us are squids for riding with helmets that are too old. My Arai is old, almost so old that the techs at Pacific Raceways told me i cant use it this season, last season was my last year to wear it. Oh well, i hate it anyway.

I want to replace mine with this Vemar Bluetooth one, but i want my dad, and wife to get one too so we can talk without that huge gay chatterbox. That thing just grabs the wind and strains your neck as it constantly tries to turn you head. WTF?

Haha! Let me tell you, i dont have a limp neck. Wrestling, boxing, muay thai, and weightlifting has thrown that idea right out the window. Its hard to find dress shirts with 17" necks that fit my short frame right.

I do park right in front of the stores or places I go to when possible. Not sure if it's legal, but hey, ignorance is bliss, right? If that's not possible I just take my chances in the parking lot. Which means I usually spend the whole time I'm in the store worrying about my bike getting hit!
